Maybe the Heaven's Gate people were on to something...

On Wednesday I was looking at friends' blogs and Porter recognized a picture of President Hinckley. I explained to him that he died and that there was a new president of our church. He asked why he died and I told him because he was old and that everyone dies someday. When I told him that everyone dies, he got upset. This brought on more questions that I wasn't ready to answer. I 'm not sure if he was ready either. He'll be 5 in April. Is that too young? I don't know.

I told him that when we die our spirit leaves our body and goes up to heaven to be with Heavenly Father and Jesus. He was upset because he thought this was all going to happen soon. So I told him to plan on living to be almost 100 years old like President Hinckley.

Yesterday at school he drew this:

It looks like his typical picture of himself in a rocket. When I asked him to tell me about it he told me it was a picture of Jesus throwing him up to heaven. Earth is in the lower left corner, Saturn is at the top right and Heaven is in the top left corner. He told me that heaven is hard to draw. Apparently Jesus uses a rocket to get people to heaven.

Today, he decided to educate the kids at school about the fact that they're gonna die eventually as well. He managed to traumatize a few. We're waiting for the parent-teacher-conference call.

I'm glad to hear about Porter. William (who's almost 6) is obsessed with it too.

What a smart boy. It is a very clear drawing and he has a nice understanding of big concepts. WARNING! You should prepare yourself now for the birds and bee's discussion.

My nephew is obsessed too. He has acutally planned his funeral, as well as his euology. He wants people to know how much he likes peanut butter........must be a boy thing.
